We often see emails and other messages on social media asking for financial help to fund funeral and burials costs.

Funds are raised often in excess of requirement and sometimes there is no accountability for the excess. Equally as important, the Muslim community ends up with spare funds spread across a number of different organisations and individuals; this is not the best way to use the community’s financial resources. Gardens of Peace has undertaken to administer a Funeral and Burial Fund to deal with the above concerns.

The Fund has a panel of Ulama to set policy and practice in deciding whether funeral and burial costs will be met. Gardens of Peace’s role will be to manage the Fund in accordance with the policy and practice set out by the panel and to hold any surplus funds, as custodian for future claims on the Fund.

Funeral and burial costs for Muslims which are reasonable will be met from the Fund, regardless of the funeral director or cemetery used. The Funeral and Burial Fund will not undertake any repatriation of the deceased.
