Burial is a sacred trust. A dedicated Muslim cemetery preserves Islamic burial traditions and gives families a permanent place to lay loved ones to rest with dignity.
Here, families can receive care rooted in faith and compassion, close to home and loved ones. Minnesota’s growing Muslim community needs permanent burial space close to home — and planning today serves our children, grandchildren and future generations.
The path to opening
After securing the land in 2014, the community persevered through years of planning, legal challenges and delays. Phase One is complete, and construction of the Masjid & Ghusl Center began on September 10, 2026.

Construction of the Masjid & Ghusl Center began: the prayer hall, washing facility, family space and offices that will open the gates for Muslim families.
The association signed the construction contract for Phase Two: a prayer hall, washing facility, family space and offices, designed by LSE Architects.
Phase One was finished and paid for with $1.4 million from the Muslim community: roads, parking and burial grounds — about five acres prepared with 5,000 burial lots — plus stormwater management and hundreds of evergreen trees planted as a natural boundary.
On July 12, 2022, the Castle Rock Township board unanimously approved the cemetery’s amended permit, allowing ghusl (ritual washing) and prayer on the land. The resolution was formally adopted on August 8.
The community secured 72 acres of farmland at 1120 220th Street West in Castle Rock Township — and paid for it in full.
Al-Maghfirah began with a shared goal: a permanent Muslim cemetery for Minnesota.
Once the Masjid & Ghusl Center is complete, the cemetery can begin serving Muslim families across Minnesota.
For Salat al-Janazah, so families and the community can pray together on site.
Rooms for ghusl and kafan — washing and shrouding the deceased with privacy and dignity.
Room for families to gather, receive condolences and support one another.
Administration and coordination with masjids, hospitals and funeral homes.

Complete Islamic care
Every burial at Al-Maghfirah will follow the Sunnah, from the washing and shrouding of the deceased to the janazah prayer and the grave itself, in compliance with Minnesota law.
